+ UCF Athletics Hall of Fame Registration Form ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF announced the class of 2015 for the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame, and the 1978 national champion UCF volleyball team will be inducted as members of the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2015.

As an athletic department and as a volleyball program, we're extremely proud that the national championship team will be inducted into the UCF Hall of Fame where they belong among all the other great athletes and teams that have helped put UCF on a national athletics map, head coach Todd Dagenais said.

Just three seasons after the program was started at UCF, the Knights finished 55-0 on the season, collecting wins over Florida, Florida State and USF during the regular season. Coached by Lucy McDaniel, the program's first coach from 1975-78, the Black and Gold started a program record 69 consecutive winning streak.

Hosting the AIAW (Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) Division II National Championship, the Black and Gold delivered five consecutive match sweeps and a pair of tight wins over Hawaii-Hilo to claim the title.

It's tremendously important for us to remember the rich history of UCF Volleyball, dating back to the late 1970s, Dagenais noted. A team that won the national championship should always be celebrated and always be in the front of our minds as the predecessors to what we see today.

A trio of Knights, Sharon Koskey, Celestine Wilson and Tammy Cipcic were named to the Regional All-Tournament Team as the Knights cruised through the State Championship Tournament and the Southern Regional Tournament. Kloskey, Wilson, Karin Fischer and Laura Smith became UCF Volleyball's first All-Americans.

This team is extremely deserving because they were able to establish volleyball as a premier women's sport in an era where women's sports were just beginning to become important, Dagenais concluded. Their success allowed volleyball to be mentioned early on as a premier sport at UCF. We are all very grateful for everything they've done for our volleyball program and we're proud that they will be enshrined in the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coach McDaniel was inducted into the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006, joining team member Laura Smith who received the honor in 1999.

The UCF Athletics Hall of Fame will take place on Friday, April 17. The 1978 team will join Stephanie Best (softball), Dee Brown (baseball/football), Asante Samuel (football) as the newest inductees.
