ORLANDO, Fla. - The UCF Volleyball team is on the rise in the latest NCAA RPI rankings. Monday's rankings moved the Knights up to 29th overall.
UCF (21-7, 14-2 AAC) gained six spots in the latest RPI, after slipping to 35th last week. The RPI standings rank 334 teams based upon their winning percentage, strength of schedule and opponents' strength of schedule.
The Knights are ahead of a combined 39 teams from the SEC, ACC, Pac-12, Big Ten and Big 12 and are the top-ranked team from the American Athletic Conference.
In the latest NCAA statistical rankings, senior DeLaina Sarden ranks fourth in the nation with a .452 hitting percentage while senior Kaye-Alese Green ranks seventh with a .425 hitting percentage. UCF is one of three teams with two players hitting above .400 this season and one of just two teams with multiple players that rank in the top ten in hitting percentages.
As a team, the Knights hold top ten rankings in three different statistical categories. UCF ranks fourth with 13.72 assists per set. Hitting .290 as a team, UCF ranks sixth in the nation, while the Knights' 14.49 kills per set ranks seventh in the NCAA.
Over the weekend, UCF saw a two-set lead slip away as Tulsa came away with a 3-2 win over the Knights on Friday. In Sunday's match against SMU, UCF rallied to win sets four and five on its way to a 3-2 win over the Mustangs. With a win on Sunday, UCF increased its lead in The American standings. The Knights hold sole possession of first place with four matches remaining in the regular season.
