ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - As the UCF volleyball team prepares for the Black and Gold Scrimmage on Friday, senior outside hitter Ashley Gialenios reflected on her time at UCF and discussed her outlook for this season.
My goal for the team this year is a championship, Gialenios said. I want to end my four years here on a good note, on the best note possible. Personally, I want to lead my team the best I can. I'd like to do well academically and really go out with a bang in every area.
The Johns Creek, Ga., native will open her senior campaign at The Venue and will play the final games of the regular season at home as well. She said it means a lot to be able to open the season in front of the home crowd for the second consecutive year.
For the seniors, it will be nice to start our season here and end our season here, she said. This is where we learn and where we get better.
Gialenios has been a leader for the Knights both on and off the court and was voted team captain by her teammates in 2012. With six seniors, she knows that each one brings a different yet important experience to the team this year.
I think it's nice that we have a big group of girls that keep our team culture going and pass on the traditions of our team, Gialenios added.
UCF Volleyball, which is presented by Radisson-UCF Area, opens the season at The Venue with the Radisson UCF Invitational on Aug. 29 and 30.
