Coming off of the second 20-win season in the last three years and the best season since 2003, UCF takes a veteran group into the 2014 campaign. Head coach Todd Dagenais noted that the Knights bring depth into the season, but also have some new faces that will keep the team competitive.
"Any time that you have six seniors, you know that you're in an experienced spot that you really want to be in," Dagenais said. "It's also nice to have that younger group around them that can not only help them on the court, but can help them in terms of leadership off the court."
UCF Volleyball, which is presented by Radisson - UCF Area, opens the season at The Venue for the second consecutive year, hosting the Radisson UCF Invitational on Aug. 29 and 30. Coach Dagenais pointed out that the team plays six of its first eight conference games on the road, so opening the season at home is a great time for the team to make adjustments.
In addition to the senior class, UCF returns sophomore Taylor Gallart, who tallied 157 kills during her rookie campaign. Among the new faces is junior transfer Abbie Fleener and sophomore transfer Jale Hervey, both of whom notched over 300 kills last season.
The Knights will hold the first practice of the season Thursday morning.
