ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF head volleyball coach Todd Dagenais has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Knights through the 2017 season. UCF posted a 21-10 overall record in 2013, the second 20-win season under Dagenais in the last three years and the best season since 2003.
UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury commended Dagenais for his leadership of the program.
I'm very pleased with the direction of our volleyball program, Stansbury said. Todd has put together a team that is very competitive on the court and very successful in the classroom. We look forward to even more of the same in the future.
Dagenais enters his seventh season at UCF with a 102-87 overall record, earning his 100th career win with a five-set victory over Cincinnati in The Venue last season. UCF Volleyball, which is presented by Radisson-UCF Area, tied the team record for most conference wins in a season in 2013, going 12-6 to finish third in the American Athletic Conference's inaugural season. The Knights had the second-most all-conference selections in The American, as five student-athletes were recognized, including a unanimous First-Team member DeLaina Sarden.
Our staff is very proud of what we have accomplished over the past six seasons, Dagenais said. Very few teams have ever started at the very bottom of conference standings, and elevated into a championship-caliber team. It's exciting for the players, staff and support staff to witness this growth and development. Yet there is still so much more that we are committed to doing. We want to win a championship, we want to compete in the NCAA Tournament, and we want to become a nationally-elite team. I'm thrilled that Mr. Stansbury trusts our staff to be the leaders guiding these efforts.
My wife (Katie) and I have made so many great friends here at UCF, Dagenais continued. We have had two children born here, and I can't imagine raising them anywhere else. Of all the stops in my coaching career, this is the first place that feels like 'home.'
Under Dagenais' leadership, three student-athletes have earned AVCA All-America honors, with DeLaina Sarden being tapped with the honor in both 2012 and 2013. Sarden also earned AVCA All-Region First Team honors for her on-court performance the past two seasons. Two Knights have also been Capital One Academic All-District honorees, with Tory McCutcheon being selected to the All-District team three consecutive seasons. In 2013, Kaye-Alese Green was awarded the Order of the Pegasus, the most prestigious and significant student award that can be attained at UCF, as it recognizes exemplary performances in the areas of academic achievement, outstanding university involvement, leadership and community service.
The Knights host the Radisson UCF Invitational on Aug. 29 and 30 at The Venue at UCF to open the 2014 campaign.
