ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The future continues to be bright for the UCF volleyball program as a Canadian prep star - Assiniboia Composite High School's Ann Richards - signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Knights, head coach Todd Dagenais announced. Richards will join the Knights prior to the 2014 campaign, the program's second in the American Athletic Conference.
"Ann could be one of the most versatile incoming freshman that we've ever had at UCF, Dagenais said. "She has the ability to comfortably play all three front row positions at a very competent level. We will continue to develop her all-around skill and are excited to work with another athlete who is highly motivated to play volleyball at a high level beyond college.
A 6'3 hitter that's capable of playing left side, opposite as well as in the middle, the Saskatchewan native earned Saskatchewan's 17U Female Volleyball of the Year honors as well as a spot on the Canada Games 20U Team that placed 6th nationally in 2013.
Richards is the second Canadian to sign an NLI with the Knights under Dagenais, following in the footsteps of four-year starter and Ontario native, Tory McCutcheon. Richards joins a program that has posted three-consecutive winning seasons under Dagenais. The Knights are in their first campaign in The American, where they currently hold a 19-8 overall record, including a 10-4 mark in league play.
Dagenais also announced that UCF currently has a second verbal commitment that will sign in the spring and that there is the possibility that more athletes could be added to the roster next semester.
