ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)- UCF senior Angelica Crump was named the American Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday. The Atlanta, Ga., native becomes the second Knight to take home the top weekly award in the new conference in the first three weeks.
Crump was named to the Georgia State Invitational All-Tournament Team after four strong performances on the left side. For the weekend, Crump racked up a league-high 73 kills, including a career-best 25 against Davidson, on 184 swings for a .255 attack percentage. The outside hitter was also a force defensively, denying 12 shots and recording 11 digs over four matches.
"The biggest goal of the weekend for us was to get Angelica Crump, DeLaina Sarden and Ashley Gialenios back to Atlanta to play in front of their family and friends," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "Geli certainly made the most of her homecoming weekend and we are proud of her for being recognized as conference player of the week."
This marks the third-career weekly honor for Crump to go along with her two Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week awards in 2011.
UCF (8-3) returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. against in-state rival Jacksonville in a Hawaiian Knight themed contest.
