COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UCF assistant volleyball coach Nicki Holmes has been named an assistant coach for USA Volleyball Girls' Select A1 teams in the upcoming USA High Performance Championships, to be held July 18-28 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
It's been an action-packed summer so far and there's no better way to bring it to a close then to work with USA volleyball again, Holmes said. My experiences with the A2 program have been great and there's no better way to grow as a coach than to work with the many great teachers and players in the USA volleyball pipeline.
The Select teams will train for five days in Fort Lauderdale before splitting into five teams of 11 for the USA High Performance Championships. The teams are selected based on athlete performance during training. Holmes is on the staff with Denver's Tom Hogan (head coach), Michigan's Erin Virtue (assistant head coach), Cal State Fullerton's Mike Gee, California's Ben Bodipo-Memba, and Ted Wade of USA Volleyball High Performance.
The High Performance Championships will consist of teams from Chile, Brazil, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, as well as other teams from the U.S. Many of the athletes that play on the Select teams will move on to the U.S. Youth National Team in future years.
Holmes is no stranger to USA Volleyball. He is currently working as an assistant coach and technical coordinator for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Senior A2 Program. Holmes and the rest of the squad are currently competing in Dallas in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.
