ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF volleyball head coach Todd Dagenais announced Thursday that Arturo Rivera, a UCF graduate, has joined the Knights' staff as an assistant coach. Rivera, who brings over six years of coaching experience to his new position, served as a volunteer assistant with the Knights from 2008-09.

"Arturo brings familiarity to our program with already knowing our system," Dagenais said. "As our program continues to look towards the future, being able to give opportunities to people who come from the UCF family becomes even more important. Having someone back on staff that has spent a year in our developing program is a huge opportunity for us."

Prior to joining the UCF staff, Rivera worked at UNLV as an assistant coach, and also was the Runnin' Rebels men's club head coach in the spring of 2011. Rivera, who earned his bachelor's degree from UCF in 2008, played professionally in the Netherlands from 2009-10 and was member of UCF's club team for three years. The Orlando native began his collegiate career at Ball State, where he competed on the NCAA Division I level with the Cardinals.

"He has a great passion for learning more about coaching at the collegiate level," Dagenais added. "He brings a unique perspective having come from a successful Mountain West program, and even more importantly, playing professionally in Europe."

Rivera joins a UCF program that has made tremendous strides under Dagenais. In 2011, the Knights won 20 contests for the first time since 2003 and concluded the campaign with a program-best 12 Conference USA victories.

"It is honestly a dream come true to coach out my alma mater and under a man that I respect so much and joining a staff that is geared toward excellence," Rivera said.

The former volunteer assistant replaces Erik Peterson, who spent three years with the Knights before joining the staff at Oklahoma earlier this month.
