MACON, GA - The UCF volleyball team lost their second consecutive match on their road trip to Georgia, falling 3-1 (29-31, 30-19, 27-30, 31-33) to Mercer. The Golden Knights fell to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the A-Sun while Mercer improved to 11-12, and 4-4 in the league.
Mercer edged UCF 31-29 in game one as Mercer recorded 18 kills while the Knights had 14 in the opening game. In game two, UCF hit .273 as a team and capitalized on 12 hitting errors by the Bears to take game two 30-19. Mercer won the third game 30-27 as the Bears committed just three hitting errors in the third game while pounding home 22 kills. Game four saw Mercer edge UCF 33-31 to clinch the match.
Mercer's Julie Darty led all players with 23 kills in the match, leading three Bears in double figures in kills. Katie Plummer and Kellie Violette each recorded 15 kills apiece for the Bears. Plummer added a team-high 25 digs in the match while Violette added three aces.
Amanda Stoutjesdyk was one of four Golden Knights to reach double figures in kills with 18. Schanell Neiderworder added 13 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double at UCF. Tanya Jarvis and Chaz Arah added 12 and 10 respectively. Jarvis added 18 digs for the Knights while Katie Kohnen added a career-high 26 digs for UCF.
The Knights will return home to face Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the UCF Arena.
