ORLANDO - UCF earned their second win in as many outings against Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-17) sweep. The Golden Knights improve to 8-10, while Bethune-Cookman falls to 10-9.
BCC gained the upper hand early in the match, taking a 10-5 lead. The Knights responded with a 12-4 run to take a 17-14 lead. Down 19-18, UCF went on a 5-0 run to take control of game one and held on for a 30-24 win. Chaz Arah recorded seven kills for UCF as the Knights hit .310 as a team in the first game.
Game two again saw Bethune-Cookman take an early lead at 15-10. Behind the serving of Tanya Jarvis, the Knights evened the game at 15 all. After the Wildcats scored four of the next six points, Schanell Neiderworder served up an ace and recorded a kill in a 6-0 run for the Knights to give UCF a 23-19 lead. The Knights would again hang on for a 30-26 win in the second game. Neiderworder recorded four kills for UCF in the second game as the Knights also recorded three aces as well.
In the third game, UCF pulled away from the beginning. The Knights built a lead of 23-13 after a 9-1 run put the game out of hand. Jana Mitchell put down a pair of kills to spark the run. After exchanging points, UCF ended the match with a 4-0 run taking game three 30-17.
Bethune-Cookman received 10 kills apiece from Melissa Sanders and Ire Cormier. Cormier added 10 digs and Jessica Martin led the Wildcats with 11 digs on the evening.
Chaz Arah recorded 12 kills to lead the Golden Knights and posted a hitting percentage of .611 while adding three blocks. Schanell Neiderworder also reached double digits in kills with 11. Katie Kohnen recorded 17 digs while Tany Jarvis recorded 12 digs for the Golden Knights. Jarvis added seven kills, leaving her three shy of surpassing the 1000 kill plateau.
Tanya Jarvis will get her next crack at reaching 1000 kills on Friday night when the Golden Knights host league leading Florida Atlantic at 7:00 p.m. in the UCF Arena.
