ORLANDO, Fla. ( - For the first time in 2014, the UCF baseball team has cracked the national polls, checking in Monday at No. 22 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings. It is the fourth-consecutive year that the Knights (25-16, 12-3 The American) have been nationally ranked.

This is the 13th time that UCF has appeared in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll in program history. Its highest ranking in those standings came on April 23, 2012, when the Knights reached No. 11 after a road sweep of Tulane. In 2012, the Black & Gold were ranked each week from the preseason to postseason, including a program-high No. 7 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.

Winners of 18 of its last 23, UCF earned its fourth-straight American Athletic Conference series victory last weekend, topping No. 9 Louisville in two of three contests. The Knights allowed just a meager 1.55 ERA over 29 innings. The series victory over Louisville was also the first ever at home over a top-10 team since rankings were kept. The previous best was when the Knights topped No. 11 Alabama three straight at the baseball complex on Feb. 23-25, 2001.

Also on Monday, junior Eric Skoglund was named The American's Pitcher of the Week for a conference-best fourth time this season.

The Sarasota native picked up his sixth victory of the season and did not allow an earned run throughout the first eight frames on just four hits. Skoglund finished his outing with 8.2 innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts and just one walk, leading the Knights to a win. The lefthander currently leads the conference in innings pitched (75.2) and strikeouts (63), while boasting a 1.90 ERA.

UCF will look to continue its winning ways when it welcomes Rutgers to the baseball complex for a three-game set beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. The action against the Scarlet Knights will be the last home conference weekend of 2014.

Multi-game packages and single-game tickets can be purchased by calling the UCFAA Sales & Service Office at (407) UCF-1000. Stay up-to-date on all the latest baseball news by following the team on Twitter @UCF_Baseball, Facebook and Instagram.
