ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After over 7,000 fans packed the baseball complex for midweek action against No. 2 Florida State, the UCF baseball team now turns its attention to Central Connecticut State beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Knights (7-11) and Blue Devils (1-0) will take part in a three-game set, the final nonconference series before American Athletic Conference play begins.
This will be the fourth time head coach Terry Rooney has hosted a team from the Northeast Conference in his six years at the helm. However, this is the inaugural meeting between the two schools.
Sunday's matinee will serve as Knights for Youth Day. All youth fans aged 12 and under will get free admission on Sunday. There will be bounce houses and a collapsible frisbee giveaway to first 250 kids through the gates. Due to an event at CFE Arena on Sunday afternoon, Garage F parking will be a cash lot. Refer to the UCF Baseball Parking Map for the latest parking information.
On the field, UCF will once again turn to its Friday-night ace LHP Eric Skoglund (1-0). The Sarasota native owns a .190 batting average against in 28 innings of work with 19 strikeouts. He will be opposed by RHP Tom Coughlin who is making his 2014 debut.
Following Skoglund in the rotation will be junior RHP Spencer Davis who will look to capitalize off his 6.1-inning quality start last Saturday. On the year, Davis has compiled a 2-0 record in four starts while surrendering just eight earned runs in 22 1/3 innings of work. The Lions will trot out RHP Nick Neumann (0-0. 1.80 ERA) who started in CCSU's 2-1 win over Iona last weekend.
The series will conclude Sunday with a 1 p.m. matinee. RHP Matt Blandino will pitch for the Blue Devils, while the Knights starter is to-be-determined.
