ORLANDO, Fla. ( - Despite erasing a 2-1 deficit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the UCF baseball team fell in extra innings, 3-2, to Central Michigan in game two of the weekend series. It was the sixth extra-inning contest in just 15 games this year, tying the 2007 campaign for the most in a single season.

The Knights (6-9) will look for a win on Sunday as the series concludes with RHP Zach Rodgers on the mound. Rodgers will be making his first weekend start of the season. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Due to an event at CFE Arena on Sunday afternoon, Garage F parking will be cash only.

Trailing the Chippewas (6-8) by a run in the ninth, UCF's most experienced hitters, JoMarcos Woods and James Vasquez, each extended their respective hitting streaks to five games with a pair of singles to open the frame. That set the stage for freshman Brooks Morgan, who was able to tie the game with an RBI groundout. The Knights had the winning run in scoring position in the inning, but a strikeout sent the game into extras.

Junior Spencer Davis spun his second quality start of the season in a no-decision. The Woodlands, Texas native allowed three hits and two runs over 6.1 innings of work to go along with five strikeouts. Junior Joe Marotta shined in relief as he tossed 2.2 innings of hitless relief to go along with three K's. Junior LHP Parker Thomas (1-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up a run in the 10th.

The Black and Gold got on the board first for the second-consecutive day with a run in the bottom of the third. Freshman Eugene Vazquez led off the inning with his first-collegiate hit and eventually came around to score his first-career run on a sacrifice fly by junior Dylan Moore.

Freshman Dalton Duty made arguably the defensive play of the young season in the top of eighth. The Palatka native, making just his second start of the year in left, made a sliding snow-cone catch on the warning track to rob a Chippewas hitter of extra bases.
