The Knights (6-8) doubled the Chippewas (5-8) in hits, 12-6, but three late miscues in the field led to a trio of unearned runs that proved to be the difference in the game.

With the Black and Gold leading 6-4 in the top of the eighth, back-to-back errors by the Knights put runners at second and third for Central Michigan with just one out. A sacrifice fly cut the deficit to one and a wild pitch to the following batter tied the game at 6 for the Chippewas. The go-ahead run game on another UCF fielding miscue in the top of the 10th.

Junior Eric Skoglund was locked in early, allowing just one hit and no runs to go along with seven strikeouts over his first six innings. The Sarasota native was touched up a bit in the seventh as Central Michigan scored four runs on three hits and a pair of walks. Skoglund, however, left the game with the lead and finished his outing with a career-high eight strikeouts in the no-decision.

UCF struck first, putting four on the board in the first inning, on a pair of RBI singles by juniors Tommy Williams and Erik Barber. Barber was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored on the night and increased his team lead in RBIs to 12. The Knights also plated two more in the frame when Barber and freshman Kam Gellinger both scampered around to score on a based-loaded wild pitch.

Junior Dylan Moore put UCF up 6-0 in the bottom of the third with an RBI single. The Yorba Linda, Calif., native went 3-for-6 with a run scored and his team-leading fifth stolen base.

Freshman Trent Thompson was tagged with the loss after allowing an unearned run in two innings of work. The Tampa native struck out one and didn't walk a batter. Fellow freshman Dalton Duty made his UCF debut and picked up a single in his first-career at-bat in the first.

The series continues tomorrow with RHP junior Spencer Davis on the mound for the Knights. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
