ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Proving to be one of the top relievers in Conference USA in just his first year on campus, rookie RHP Zac Favre was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper Wednesday afternoon.
The Jacksonville native becomes the 11th Knight, and fifth pitcher, in program history to earn the honorable distinction.
Also earning a spot on C-USA's All-Freshman Team, Favre tied the single-season record for most relief appearances at UCF with 32 while boasting a 3-2 record with a 3.28 ERA in 49 1/3 innings of work. He tied for the team lead with four saves and struck out 55 batters while limiting opponents to just a .186 batting average against.
In his inaugural season at UCF, Favre also became the third pitcher in school history to earn C-USA Pitcher of the Week laurels on March 18 after dominant performances against Jacksonville, Florida A&M and Columbia in which he tossed 8.0 innings, allowed no runs on three hits, struck out 11 and walked just one.
