ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Coming off the most impressive season of her career in 2008, UCF senior volleyball player Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) ushered in the 2009 season by being named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Volleyball Team, league officials announced Wednesday.

"I am glad that the coaches in Conference USA recognize what Erin has done for the resurgence of the UCF program," second-year head coach Todd Dagenais said. "What people don't yet know is how hard Erin worked in the off season, and how committed she is to being the best team player she can be. She has worked so hard to be a consummate leader on and off the court and I think she has positioned herself for a special senior season."

The outside hitter became the first Knight to be named to C-USA volleyball preseason squad since the Black and Gold joined the league in 2005.

During her junior campaign, Campbell led UCF in kills (402), kills per set (3.17), block solos (19), points (453.0) and points per set (3.57), and also paced UCF with 14 double-doubles, including eight-straight from Sept. 20-Oct. 15. She was one of only two Knights to play in all 127 sets for the Black and Gold.

With her 402 kills and 301 digs last season, Campbell became the first UCF volleyball player to record 400-or-more kills and 300-or-more digs in the same season since 1997. The Kansas City, Mo., native also became only the fourth player in UCF history to post 300-or-more kills and 300-or-more digs in two-consecutive seasons, and if she can post the numbers as a senior, will become only the second player to reach the mark in three-straight seasons.

Entering the 2009 season, Campbell needs only 151 more digs and 189 more kills to reach 1,000 in her career in both categories.

The excitement surrounding the 2009 volleyball season continues to intensify, as the squad opens the season in a mere 16 days on its home court for the Radisson-UCF Invitational on Aug. 28.
