Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team will participate in a growing volleyball tradition around the country when it holds its "Dig for the Cure" match on Friday, Oct. 12 against Tulsa to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

UCF's contest versus Tulsa is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the new UCF Arena.

The Knights are securing pledges for each dig they record during their match with the Golden Hurricane. Donations will also be accepted at the gate. In addition to raising funds, fans can pick up important breast cancer information for women of all ages, courtesy of the Komen Foundation.

In 2007, 10 of the 14 Atlantic 10 volleyball programs are scheduled to participate, along with seven teams from the West Coast Conference and 24 other programs from the ACC, Conference USA, Big 12 and other leagues.

Those interested in pledging money or making a donation for UCF's "Dig for the Cure" event should contact Suzi Katz (skatz@mail.ucf.edu) at (407) 823-3555.

About the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (courtesy of the foundation's website):

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Foundation is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure® to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

A global leader in the fight against breast cancer, the Foundation fulfills its mission through support of innovative breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards and educational, scientific and community outreach programs around the world. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, the Komen Foundation has raised more than $740 million for the fight against breast cancer.
