ORLANDO - Playing in its regular-season finale, the UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-28, 30-25, 30-24) non-league match to visiting Florida Atlantic on Sunday at UCF Arena. Junior outside hitter Maina Heming had a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs for the Golden Knights (8-17).
The Owls (27-2) were led by Kelly Paiva, who recorded a match-high 20 kills to go with 10 digs. Paiva registered a .486 hitting percentage.
Playing for the first time since Oct. 30, sophomore outside hitter Lorin Lukas had 11 kills and nine digs for UCF. Junior setter Leah Alexander tallied 32 assists, two service aces and two total blocks.
Junior outside hitter Jana Mitchell had four block assists in the loss and now has 92 on the year, good for ninth on UCF's single-season register.
Florida Atlantic, which has won 11-consecutive matches, hit .246 for the match and recorded 10 total team blocks.
In the winning effort, Janelle Sarauw had 10 kills. Casey LaRocca recorded 44 assists and Makra Condill posted 15 digs.
UCF will return to the court on Thursday, participating in the Conference USA Championship in Houston, Texas. Seedings and matchups for the event will be announced on Sunday evening.
