ORLANDO - UCF Volleyball head coach Meg Colado announced the Golden Knights 2005 schedule on Monday. The slate features 10 home matches and 16 Conference USA contests. The Golden Knights will be competing in C-USA for the first time after leaving the Atlantic Sun.

"The C-USA schedule will be challenging," said Colado. "From top to bottom, the teams are strong and there is an increase in travel from last season. We are all looking forward to the challenge and we know that it is going to be an exciting year."

The Golden Knights kickoff the schedule on Aug. 26 at Florida A&M and make their C-USA home debut on Sept. 25 against Tulsa. UCF's first home match will be on Sept. 20 against Florida Atlantic.

The team will participate in the Minnesota Diet Coke Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. from Sept. 2-3. At the event, UCF will face Xavier, North Dakota State and host Minnesota.

Minnesota is one of four squads on UCF's schedule that participated in the 2004 NCAA Championship. The Golden Gophers advanced to the national title match.

"In scheduling the Minnesota tournament, we felt that playing teams of that caliber would only make us better in the long run," said Colado. "It gives our players a chance to see volleyball at its highest level and aspire to be there someday. Also, it gives them a chance to play in a great environment."

The Golden Knights will play their inaugural C-USA match on Sept. 23 at SMU. The two teams will be meeting for the first time. UCF is paired in the C-USA East Division with East Carolina, Marshall, Memphis, Southern Miss and UAB and will play those teams both at home and on the road.

Additionally, the Golden Knights will host Houston, Rice and Tulsa for league contests.

After concluding its regular season on Nov. 11 at Southern Miss, the Golden Knights will compete at the C-USA Championship, hosted by Rice in Houston, Texas. The event begins Nov. 17. The tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

Seven letterwinners return from last season's squad.
