ORLANDO - Are you ready for the next phase of your life? Would you like to have the college experience? On Saturday, November 20, 2004 there will be admissions and application information from multiple colleges and universities at the University of Central Florida's Arena during the A-Sun Volleyball Championship game. These "College Block Party" festivities begin at 11:00 a.m., with fun inside and outside the UCF arena. Upstairs in the arena, there will be information on A-Sun Conference Schools well as from other colleges and universities throughout Florida. While outside the arena there will be free food, music, games and inflatables. The volleyball match will begin at 1:00 p.m. During the game, fans will have a chance to win raffle prizes including tickets to area attractions and certificates for restaurants.
Tickets are $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for youth (ages 6 to 17) and seniors (aged 55 and older). Children under the age of 6 are free. Group tickets (10 or more) purchased in advance are $2.00. There is no charge for UCF students with a valid student ID. In addition, the first 50 students to arrive at the game will be given free pizza. Each attendee will receive a raffle ticket with the game day ticket purchased. Additional raffle tickets will be given for every two canned food items donated at the site. These canned food items will then be delivered to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
The "College Block Party" idea to target high schoolers came from students in the DeVos Sport Business Management Program in the College of Business Administration at the University of Central Florida. As part of a class project, the students were challenged to impact the perception of, acceptance of, and attendance of a UCF athletic event in a creative way. The graduate students in this program must complete a variety of "real world" assignments in the sport business industry as part of their grades.
