ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 19 UCF women’s tennis team will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for ITA Kickoff Weekend taking place on Jan. 25-26, 2020. The Knights will be the No. 2 seed in the Ann Arbor bracket, which consists of No. 14 Michigan, No. 44 Utah and No. 48 Ole Miss.
The Black and Gold will square off against the Utah Utes for the first time in program history. The Utes went 13-11 last season and retain a young core heading into the 2019-2020 season.
Michigan was the No. 16 national seed in the NCAA tournament and was eliminated in the sweet 16 by then No. 1 Georgia. They’ll face the No. 4 seed in the Ann Arbor bracket, No. 48 Ole Miss. The Rebels finished the season at an even 12-12, but played some tough competition. Ole Miss visited the Wolverines last year for ITA Kickoff Weekend and will look for a different result this time around as they dropped a 4-0 decision to Michigan. The Knights beat Ole Miss 6-1 in mid-February this season.
The winner of the Michigan vs. Ole Miss match will face the winner of the UCF vs. Utah match for a spot at the ITA National Indoors. Should UCF and Michigan win their matches, it would only be the fourth time the two programs have crossed paths. In their most recent meeting, the Knights triumphed over Michigan for College MatchDay back on March 3, 2017. The 4-2 win began an 11-match winning streak for the Knights in head coach Bryan Koniecko’s first season at the helm.
