ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The top-seeded UCF women’s tennis team is ready to begin their quest for the American Athletic Conference Championship tomorrow as they will face the No. 8 seeded Memphis Tigers at noon.
Memphis defeated the No. 9 seeded Temple Owls 4-0 earlier today in the first round of the AAC championship tournament. The match was tight beginning with doubles, but Memphis prevailed with the deciding court on court one. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in a hurry, but the other courts took some time finishing.
UCF beat Memphis last season by a score of 4-1 at home. The Knights own an 8-5 all-time record when facing the Tigers. This will be the second time the Knights will face them in the American Athletic Conference tournament, the time prior came in 2014 where Memphis topped UCF 4-1.
The Knights will begin their quest tomorrow for their first conference title since 2002. In the five seasons of the American Athletic Conference, the Knights have never made it past the semifinals. They are the No. 1 seed for the second consecutive year. In the sixth season of the conference tournament, the Knights have been a No. 1 (twice), No. 4, No. 6, No. 8, and No. 10 seed.
UCF is coming off a solid performance against their rival USF in their final match of the regular season. That brought UCF’s record to 19-3 on the season. The Knights can tie their win total from last season with a win tomorrow. UCF’s ranking of No. 25 will only climb higher with a strong run in the tournament.
