ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After starting the year 9-2, the UCF women’s tennis team set the record for highest team ranking in program history at No. 18 in the ORACLE/ITA rankings.
The Knights entered the weekend with three matches scheduled in four days. Of the three opponents, two were ranked. With the previous week’s rankings putting the Knights down from 21 to 30, UCF was looking to sweep their three-game slate and bump themselves back into the top-25.
UCF dominated their match against Georgia State on Thursday as the Knights cruised to a 7-0 victory. This was the second sweep on the season for the Knights, but they have been close to blanking many other opponents, winning 6-1 four different times.
No. 40 Denver visited the Knights on Saturday. The Knights jumped on Denver early and grabbed the first four points of the match before finishing the match with a 5-2 win over the Pioneers.
On the biggest stage of the season, No. 48 Florida came to town for College Matchday. The contest was tight, but UCF prevailed 4-3 for their seventh straight victory.
With two more wins against ranked opponents, the Knights move to 3-2 against top 50 teams in the 2019 campaign.
After playing three matches in four days, the Knights will have a week without match action. UCF will look to make it eight straight wins against Yale on March 3 at 11 a.m.
