ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Let the madness of March begin.
The UCF women's basketball team is embarking on its first trip to the American Athletic Conference Championship and is set to face Cincinnati at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The first-round matchup, which will broadcast on ESPN3, will tip off tournament action at 6 p.m. ET.
The winner will advance to meet undefeated and top-ranked UConn on Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
The Knights seem to hit their stride during the postseason as they hold an 11-4 record (.733) in conference tournament action under the direction of head coach Joi Williams. Last season, as a member of Conference USA, UCF advanced to its third championship title game of the last five years.
Cincinnati holds a 2-0 edge in its series with UCF, which includes a last-second 50-49 come-from-behind victory in the teams' last meeting in Orlando on Feb. 22. Freshman Zykira Lewis, who has led the team in scoring for the past six outings, has averaged 15.5 points per game against the Bearcats.
Cincinnati closed out the regular season with back-to-back losses to Louisville and Memphis. Jeanise Randolph does it all for the Bearcats as their leading scorer and rebounder with 11.7 points and 8.8 boards per game.
