ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Registration for the 2009 Joi Williams Basketball Camps is underway and each of the five camps is quickly gaining campers. The camps taking place in June and July offer opportunities for players of all age groups and ability levels to improve on their games while having a fun experience and meeting and learning from UCF coaches and players. Sign up today and do not miss your opportunity to learn the game from Williams, the 2009 Conference USA Coach of the Year, and her staff and players.
Williams led the Knights to an 11-5 record in C-USA play in 2008-09. UCF then claimed the C-USA tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where they fell in a hard-fought game to third-seeded North Carolina.
The first camp held will be the Fundamental Day Camp from June 8-12. The camp is available for players from second thru 12th grade and will last from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. At this camp the players will learn a wide range of fundamentals, both offensively and defensively, and offer a solid foundation in skill development and motivation.
Team Camp will be held from June 15-21 and will welcome junior high, junior varsity and varsity teams. The camp allows coaches to pick the days and times of their games and pay per game. Numerous local teams coming off successful state tournament runs have signed up to attend. Please contact assistant coach Greg Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on the team camp.
The Elite Position Play Camp will be held for players from seventh to 12th grade on June 21-22. The camp allows players to learn and enhance specific skills related to their position. The post players will focus on positioning, low post moves, rebounding and defense while perimeter players will get specific instruction and practice on passing, ball handling moves, shooting and defense.
Two camps will run from June 29-July 3, with the Mini Camp set for 9 a.m.-noon for players from pre-K to third grade. The Scoring and Offensive Play Camp takes place the same days from 1-4 p.m. Players from third to 12th grade are eligible to attend and will receive shooting instruction as well as footwork, free throws and getting open to score.
A confirmation letter with detailed information concerning check-in times, things to bring, directions and a physical form will be sent when your application and deposit are received. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
