PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The 2007-08 UCF women's basketball recruiting class was among 16 schools to receive an honorable mention in Blue Star Basketball's annual ranking of the top 50 program's in the nation recently.

During the early signing period, UCF received commitments from five freshmen, including guards Angelica Mealing (Decatur, Ga./Avondale HS), Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts) and Shunice Hardy (Lithonia, Ga./Stephenson HS), forward Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend HS) and center Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts). Center and junior college transfer Wanyna Brown (Albany, Ga./Seward County CC) also signed with the Golden Knights.

Aspects that Blue Star considers in its evaluation are the ranking of the best player in the signing class, the depth of the class and the talent compared to a team's league competition. UCF was the only program from Conference USA to earn a spot on Blue Star's list.

Among the other school's receiving honorable mention were Rutgers, Virginia Tech, St. John's, Baylor, Minnesota, Seton Hall, New Mexico State, George Washington and Louisiana Tech. Tennessee grabbed the top spot followed by Maryland and Duke.

Blue Star is the third recruiting service to rate the Golden Knights' incoming class among its top 75. Earlier in the season, Dan Olson of the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report ranked UCF No. 41, while Bret McCormick of the All-Star Girls Report listed UCF at No. 75.
