ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF junior right-hander Robby Howell was tabbed as The American Pitcher of the Week on Monday following a career-high seven strikeouts against USF. He had a no-hitter broken up with two outs in the seventh inning and registered his seventh victory of the season.
In his third combined shutout of the campaign, Howell lowered his ERA to a league-leading 1.14, which ranks seventh nationally. The Knights defeated USF, 4-0, on Saturday and won the series with a thrilling 6-5 victory on Sunday.
The Fort White, Fla., native is one of six players in the country with a 7-0 mark. Just two players in the nation have achieved eight victories, but both have suffered one defeat.
Howell earned his second player of the week award from the league with the first coming on March 7 earlier this year. He logged a combined shutout at Rice to aid the Knights in evening that series.
UCF is back in action on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. contest at North Florida. The Knights welcome Tulane for a three-game set that starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the UCF Baseball Complex.
