ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Following a series win over conference-rival USF, the Knights head on the road for a mid-week matchup with North Florida on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The pitching matchup features freshman lefty Bryce Tucker (0-1, 4.40 ERA, 10 K) for the Knights going up against UNF's righty Brad Depperman (0-0, 12.27 ERA, 2 K).
UCF (20-18, 5-4 The American) took the series from South Florida by earning a 4-0 shutout on Saturday and posting a 6-5 win on Sunday. Those wins came after a tough 6-4 loss on Friday to open the series.
For leading the Knights to a win on Saturday, junior righty Robby Howell was named The American Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. He totaled a career-high seven strikeouts and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Bulls.
North Florida (24-14, 5-4) is coming off a sweep of in-state foe Stetson. The Ospreys also have wins against George Washington, Savannah State, Jacksonville, Penn, UNC Wilmington, Bethune-Cookman, USF, Quinnipiac, Dartmouth and Kennesaw State.
In the last meeting back on Feb. 24, the Knights posted a 5-4 victory and senior Harrison Hukari notched the win. Junior Ryan Crile blasted a three-run homer, while the game-winning run was driven in by junior Austin Griffin in the eighth frame.
The Knights are back home to start a three-game set with Tulane on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The contest on Saturday against the Green Wave is set to begin at 4 p.m., while the finale on Sunday is at 1 p.m.
