Sophomore right-hander Cre Finfrock (2-2) tallied four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work for UCF (15-13, 0-1 The American) and yielded four earned runs. Finfrock only allowed three runs entering the seventh inning and worked out of a one-out bases loaded jam in the second frame with a pair of strikeouts to keep the contest scoreless at the time.

Memphis (10-15, 1-0 The American) was paced by Jake Little, who drove in runs with hits in the third and seventh frames. A two-out, two-RBI double in the seventh inning came off the bat of Brandon Grudzielanek that capped the four-run frame.

The victory was given to Colton Hathcock (3-3), who tossed eight innings and struck out two.

The series between the Knights and Tigers continues on Saturday with a 3 p.m. start. The finale of the three-game set begins at 1 p.m.

The next home game for the Knights is on Tuesday against No. 18 Florida Atlantic with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. at the UCF Baseball Complex.
