ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - Three UCF Knights teams are among the best in the nation with regard to Academic Progress Rate. The UCF football, volleyball and women's tennis programs have all earned public recognition through the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program.

To be recognized through the Academic Performance Program, a team must have posted multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. It's the fifth straight year for head coach Stephanie Nickitas' women's tennis program to be recognized, while head coach Todd Dagenais' volleyball squad has been on this list for four straight years.

There is a long-standing tradition of academic success here, UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White said. It was one of the attributes of this athletic department that impressed me the most when I learned of the opportunity here. To be in the top 10 percent in the nation is outstanding. Congratulations to each of the student-athletes in these sports for their success. Congratulations as well to their coaches and our entire staff for creating a culture where academic success is expected.

Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced April 20.
