CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - Outside hitter Kristin Fisher (Clearwater, Fla.) posted a double-double with a team and match-high 16 kills, 13 digs, five blocks and two service aces, but it was not enough as the UCF volleyball team fell to James Madison, 3-1 (23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 21-25), Friday afternoon on the opening day of the Chattanooga Classic.
For the first time this season, the Knights held the advantage in blocks in the match with 10.5 total blocks compared to the Dukes' 7.0 total team blocks.
Fisher led the team with her five total blocks, which included two block solos, while Brittanie Wallace (Austin, Texas), Evija Vilde (Riga, Latvia) and Nichole Riedel (Denver, Colo.) each added three blocks and nine kills for the Black and Gold.
In the back court, sophomores Meredith Murphy (Austin, Texas) and Dani Harrison (Tallahassee, Fla.) posted 12 digs apiece and freshman Roxy Mendez (Orlando, Fla.) added a career-best 10 digs against James Madison.
After dropping the first two sets to the Dukes, UCF bounced back to win the third set after hitting .400 as a team with 12 kills and only three attack errors, but it was James Madison who prevailed in the fourth set to bring the match to a close.
The Knights will conclude play in the Chattanooga Classic Saturday with matches against the host Mocs and Belmont at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
Season tickets are now available for purchase for only $30 online at UCFAthletics.com or by calling the UCF Athletics Ticket Office at (407) UCF-1000. The Knights are set to host 13 regular-season matches at The Venue at UCF this season, which includes 10 Conference USA contests.
