PROVIDENCE, R.I. ( - Junior James Vasquez earned his first weekly honor from the conference on Monday, as he was named the final American Athletic Conference Player of the Week of the season.

The UCF first baseman helped lead the Knights (34-22) to a road win over No. 4 Florida State and a second place finish in The American regular season standings with a victory at Connecticut in the season finale.

Vasquez went 8-for-15 (.533) from the plate on the week, drove in five runs, and crossed the plate five times on the week. He had one double, an on base percentage of .632 and a slugging percentage of .600.

The Palm City, Fla., native improved his team leading batting average to .340, which ranks fourth in the league. He is also second in The American with 50 runs batted in, and is in the Top 10 for slugging (.492, 6th), OBP (.444, 4th), runs scored (39, 9th), and home runs (6, 4th).

Vasquez and the second seeded Knights will begin play at The American Championships on Wednesday at 11 a.m. against seventh seeded UConn.
