ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF baseball team returns to action with a pair of non-conference games during the mid-week, playing a home-and-home series with Florida Atlantic. The no. 26-ranked Knights will host the Owls on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and then make the trip down to Boca Raton for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
UCF is coming off of its first conference series defeat of the season, falling in two out of three games at no. 13-ranked Houston this weekend. The Knights won the opener 4-3, and were one strike away from taking the series, before the Cougars went on to win game two in walk-off fashion, 4-3, and game three by a score of 5-2.
Even with the pair of losses at Houston, UCF (29-17, 16-5) still finds itself ranked 26th in the nation by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, and the Knights maintain a half game lead on no. 7 Louisville (37-11, 14-4) in the American Athletic Conference.
Florida Atlantic (24-23) comes into the week with hopes of achieving similar success to that the Owls had in 2013 against the Knights. Last season FAU defeated UCF 10-2 in Orlando, and then swept the season series with a 4-3 victory in Boca Raton.
The Owls are coming off of a series win at Old Dominion, taking two out of three on the road against the Monarchs, but FAU has lost four out of its last six games overall and dropped each of its last four mid-week contests.
UCF is slated to send redshirt junior righty Spencer Davis (2-0, 5.11) to the mound on Tuesday to take on FAU's sophomore right-hander Kyle Miller (0-0, 6.23). Neither team has named a starter for Wednesday.
Both games will be available on UCF All-Access with Bryan Levine on the call. Gametracker and the @UCF_Baseball Twitter feed are also available for in-game updates.
