MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF played the final 42 minutes down a man and earned a 2OT draw Saturday at No. 14 West Virginia, 0-0. The Knights had a couple of opportunities throughout the match, but were unable to break the deadlock.

The draw was the first result for the Knights against a ranked foe since a 2-2 2OT draw at No. 24 UConn (10/5/13).

EVEN AT THE BREAK
  • The Knights held a 4-2 advantage in shots and a 4-0 lead in corners during the first 45 minutes.
  • Both teams registered one shot on goal in the opening half.
  • Juniors Ricardo Oliveros and Cal Jennings combined for three shots off the bench.
  • A clutch diving stop by freshman Yannik Oettl was made in the 30th minute.
FORCED TO WORK HARDER
  • After WVU missed a penalty kick with a shot over the bar in the 68th minute, Oettl was issued a red card after receiving his second yellow card. The Knights were forced to play the rest of the contest down a player.
  • The first shot that sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Rosenberg faced was stopped to keep it even, which was the first of his two saves.
  • UCF had a quality opportunity off a counter attack in the 79th minute, but the strike from freshman Hattabiou Barry went inches wide of the far post.
  • The defense for the Knights kept the Mountaineers to the outside and forced them to take shots from distance.
FINAL CHANCES
  • The Knights fired two shots in the overtime session, while WVU registered five, including the only shot on goal.
  • WVU executed six corner kicks in the second half.
  • The Knights' defense made a couple of key stops in the final moments to preserve the draw.
  • Both teams tallied three shots on goal during the contest.
NEXT UP
  • The Knights match against FIU on Tuesday has been postponed. Both teams are looking to find a makeup date for the in-state bout.
  • The next contest on the UCF schedule is a trip to FGCU on Sept. 19.
