UCF Head Coach Todd Dagenais
Opening statement…
We saw an entire season worth of action today. The first set was one of our best this season with 18 kills on 29 swings and hitting close to .600. I thought the block did some great things that helped us transition into the attack. In the second set, we faltered a little bit, but we were still good enough to win.

In the third, Temple realized they were against the wall, and they went for it. The put everything they had into their serving, attack and defense. We were taken aback by that. We tried to change what we were doing in order to match them. I thought that if we had kept playing our game that got us to that point, we would have been fine. Temple really brought the emotion and dictated the action.

For the majority of the fourth, Temple dictated everything. We struggled to find an answer early on, but we slowly started chipping it away their lead. We made some timely blocks, and that started to change the momentum. We made a couple of big digs on some hard attacks to keep plays alive that we were able to win. It wasn’t easy, but we earned that fourth set.

We didn’t quit. With our backs against the wall, we started making plays and got that fourth set to overtime. Once we got there, I knew we could string together a couple points to win the match.

On what was said during the fourth set in timeouts…
It was our typical backs-against-the-wall timeout. Jordan said somethings that coaches normally say. The coaching staff then added some technical things, but there weren’t any magical words said. It was just something that let us settle down and realize that there was a way to make it happen.

On the block and the attack…
I thought were did a great job being able to work pin to pin on offense and defense. Anne-Marie did great job on the attack all afternoon. We moved her all over the place to get her some different looks, and she executed all of them. McKenna was solid for us all over the floor. The middles played a big role for us tonight. Even though she only had three kills, Wesolich did a great job in the block for us too. Nerissa chipped in with a .385 attack percentage and nine blocks.

On where the team is at this point of the season…
Here we are in November now and we still aren’t firing on all cylinders. Our best games are still ahead of us. I’m proud of how we’re able to find a way to win when we weren’t playing our best.

On Alumnae Weekend against Cincinnati and ECU…
We’re really looking forward to next weekend. It’s not only a big weekend with two big matches against two great teams. It’s also a great opportunity to honor the past and present of our program. We look forward to welcoming back players from every generation of UCF Volleyball to The Venue. We really need a huge crowd out there to support us with two key matches as we work towards our season goals.
