ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team added two home matches to their 2019 slate. The Knights will now face No. 1 Wake Forest on March 10 at noon and Memphis on April 15 at 6 p.m. With these additions, the Black and Gold now play 18 matches, with 12 of them being played at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
Wake Forest won the 2018 national championship on their home court by defeating Ohio State 4-2. This is the second year in a row that the Demon Deacons have begun the season ranked first in the nation. Not only are they ranked No. 1 as a team, but they have four top-80 players on their roster, including the top NCAA DI men’s tennis player Petros Chrysochos.
The Knights add another conference opponent with the scheduling of the Memphis Tigers bringing UCF’s conference schedule to three matches. Memphis went 18-6 during the 2018 season which included a perfect 5-0 record in conference play. The Tigers defeated six opponents ranked inside the top 50 last season with their biggest win coming against No. 14 Oklahoma State.
With these additions, the Knights now face six top-25 teams. Their ranked opposition now includes No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 4 Florida, No. 10 Stanford, No. 16 Illinois, No. 21 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Michigan. The Memphis match will be the regular season finale for the Knights and comes the day after the War on I-4.
UCF faces Stanford on the road on Saturday at 2 p.m. as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Knights will either play Oregon or Minnesota the following day depending on the outcome of Saturday's matches.
