#1 Florida State Squeaks by Knights

ORLANDO ( – In front of the second largest crowd ever at the UCF Softball Complex with 1,161 fans in attendance, the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles squeaked by the Knights, 2-1 in a game that came down to each team’s last at-bats.

UCF outhit the Seminoles, 9-8, and held them scoreless until the seventh inning, but the defending National Champions held on to win by a single run.

Erin Emanuel, Denali Schappacher, Jazmine Esparza, and Tamesha Glover put up two hits each with Emanuel delivering her first triple of the season and Esparza grabbing her fifth double.

Alea White tossed her ninth complete game of the season and did not give up an earned run in the loss. The junior struck out seven Seminoles and now holds a 7-5 record on the season with a 1.88 earned run average.

UCF holds a 12-6 record heading into the second game with Florida State.

Things You Need To Know:

  • Emanuel collected six hits in the tournament with a double and a triple and scored three times. The senior improves her overall average to .303.
  • Esparza brought in UCF’s only run in the game for her sixth hit of the weekend. The Junior compiled four RBI’s and recorded a .692 slugging percentage.
  • The Black and Gold hit .278 as a team in the four games and outscored their opponents, 18-5.
  • The pitching duo of White and Breanna Vasquez kept opponents to a .208 batting average.
  • The Knights went 3-1 in the UCF Invitational to close out their home tournaments. In all three of their home tournaments combined, the Knights went 10-3.
  • White went 2-1 on the weekend and did not give up a single earned run and struck out 16.
  • UCF has two more home games before their road trip to Clearwater and boasts a 10-4 record at home with Florida State and Boston College in a midweek matchups up next.
  • The previous record of attendance against Florida State was 947 on March 22, 2017.

FSU: 2-0 | 7th | With runners on second and third, a UCF miscue allowed both runners to score.
UCF: 2-1 | 7th | Schappacher and Glover delivered back-to-back singles to left field. Esparza ripped a single up the middle to bring in Schappacher.

The Knights will battle No. 1 Florida State again on Monday at 6 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
