ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF Softball head coach Renee Gillispie announced the arrival of four new members of the Knights' team. Sophomore outfielder Willow Kalinen joined freshmen Megan Greenwell, Hailie Henson and Courtney Rotton on the softball roster for 2015.
Greenwell was a two-time All-Dade First Team selection at Miami Palmetto Senior High School. The four-year varsity starter received MVP honors as a senior while batting .587. A Miami, Fla., native, she was named rookie of the year as a freshman.
A two-time Colleyville Heritage High Catcher of the Year, Henson also earned First Team All-District accolades in her final two seasons. The Grapevine, Texas, native led the district with 48 RBI and had a .500 batting average in her last season. Henson also competed on the track and field team.
After four seasons as an East Ridge High School Knight in Clermont, Fla., Rotton continues her career as a Knight. The Cabot, Ark., native was a four-year letter winner and earned MVP honors as a junior and senior. In her final season at East Ridge, she hit seven home runs and tallied 29 RBI while batting .514.
Kalinen transferred to UCF from New Mexico following a freshman campaign where she was named All-Mountain West Conference First Team. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native led the conference with a .535 batting average in league games and earned the team's most improved player award. At Pinnacle High School, she was named All-Division I First Team and All-Section III First Team. She set a single-season record for triples and holds the school career records for hits with 183 and runs with 132.
UCF returns 19 members of last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA Gainesville Regional finals, including American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Farrah Sullivan. The Knights also bring back a deep pitching staff, with three 20-win pitchers in Shelby Turnier, Mackenzie Audas, and Jamie Ujvari.
