ORLANDO - UCF senior track and field standout Tracy Fischler was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Fischler, a pole vaulter, posted a career-best mark of 11-feet, 5.75 inches at the Golden Knight Twilight in late April. The effort is second all-time at UCF and ranked her as high as fourth in Conference USA.
A member of the 2003 UCF cheerleading squad that won the national championship, Fischler began competing in the pole vault during the 2004 season. She finished third in the event at the Atlantic Sun Championship that year.
Fischler, received her degree in molecular and microbiology in May, was a member of the President's Leadership Council and also volunteered at Florida Hospital. She is slated to attend Florida State's College of Medicine.
"Tracy deserves to be recognized for what she has accomplished throughout her career," said UCF head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "She has been a remarkable student and the progress that she has made in the pole vault is unparalleled for someone who only began competing a few years ago. We're very proud of her."
To be eligible for academic all-district honors, nominees must carry a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale and be at least a sophomore with one full academic year at the institution.
