WICHITA, Kan. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team picked up five points and qualified a trio for Sunday’s 100-meter dash final during Saturday action at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship at Cessna Stadium.
For the second straight day, Jhane’ Carter added points to the UCF team score. The senior’s third attempt of the afternoon landed at a season-best 50-2/15.29m, which moved her into fourth and added five points to UCF's team score. With a seventh place finish in the hammer throw on Friday, Carter has scored points in two events in back-to-back outdoor championships.
On the track, a trio of Knights qualified for Sunday’s final in the 100-meter dash.
Shian Hyde won her heat to automatically qualify with a mark of 11.49. Ciara Holback and Shaniya Williams both finished second in their heats. Holback’s 11.64 mark and Williams’ 11.73 mark were the top two non-automatic qualifying times, as the pair will join Hyde in the finals.
UCF has at least three competitors in the 100-meter final for the first time since 2016 when four Knights qualified for the final eight spots. Holback, who also qualified for the 200-meter dash final, and Hyde will race in their first final at The American Championship while Williams qualified for the second straight year.
With eight events scored, UCF has 12 team points.
The Knights conclude action in Wichita on Sunday, starting with the triple jump and discus at 3:30 p.m. ET.
