ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -The UCF volleyball team will look to get Conference USA play started on the right foot after a challenging non-conference slate as it returns home for VolleyBowl V. The Knights (3-9) will host UTEP (5-7) Friday night at 7 p.m. in the fifth installment of VolleyBowl with the first 1,000 students in the door receiving a guaranteed ticket to the UCF-Missouri football game on Sept. 29.
Student tickets sold out for the first time since 2007 in the Knights' football home opener, and ticket demand is expected to be greater for Missouri. This makes attending VolleyBowl V the only way for students to get a guaranteed ticket. Students will be given a wristband upon entry and wristbands that are still on a student's wrist can be redeemed at the end of the match for one UCF-Missouri ticket.
Other promotions include:
- Finish T-Shirt Toss
- A few lucky fans will find a ticket to SeaWorld or Aquatica wrapped in their T-Shirt
- Chance to win black UCF draw string bags
- Some bags will contain coupons and/or gift cards to corporate partners such as Little Caesars, Subway and Barney's
- Game break contest with the winner receiving:
- An extra ticket to the Missouri game
- SeaWorld or Aquatica Tickets
- Black UCF draw string bags
- Finish T-Shirt
- Coupons and/or gift cards.
UCF, which is 2-2 all-time in VolleyBowl events, is looking for another large crowd as the last three editions of VolleyBowl have produced the three-highest attended volleyball matches in school history with a combined 4,062 fans out supporting the three events.
Friday night is also a chance at history for senior libero Meredith Murphy as she looks to become the program's all-time leader in digs. Murphy, who has played in 390 of 392 possible sets in her career, will look to break Miriam Metzcus's mark of 1,644 digs set in 1994. Murphy already holds the top three spots in the UCF record book for single-season digs per set and will look to solidify herself as one of the best defensive players in school history on Friday night.
Murphy currently leads the Knights in digs (142) and service aces (10) while ranking third on the team in assists (32).
