ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -The UCF volleyball team opens its busy spring season this Saturday with a double-header against Rollins and professional team the Florida WAVE from 2-5 p.m. at the Venue at UCF. Admission is free for all who attend.
"The main focus for our spring competition is to help us develop the depth that we need to make a run at a Conference USA Championship and start laying the foundation for us to compete at a high level in the BIG EAST in 2013," UCF head volleyball coach Todd Dagenais said. "Most of our depth players did not get as much playing time as what we would have hoped for, so this will be their opportunity to shine against high-level competition,"
The Knights will compete against one of their own, former UCF outside hitter and current WAVE player Tanya Jarvis. Jarvis captained the Knights in 2004 and finished her career ranked seventh all-time in total kills with 1,039. Jarvis tried out for the WAVE in December and was added to the squad in January.
This Saturday's games are just the start of a jam-packed spring schedule for the UCF. The Knights will host a Spring Fling the following Saturday, March 24, when they will welcome Florida, Florida State, Miami and eight other schools. The 12-team event spans from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Venue and will cost $5 to attend with proceeds benefitting the Florida Chapter of Hands and Voices.
UCF then heads to Gainesville to face the Gators on April 7 before traveling to Siesta Key, Fla., for the Fiesta on Siesta Beach Championship.
