ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – A trio of second half goals led No. 24 UCF women’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Houston on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Soccer Complex.

The Knights (9-5-1, 6-2 The American) were locked in a scoreless battle with Houston (7-9-2, 3-4-1 The American) until the 59th minute. Carrie Lawrence’s corner kick found the head of Stefanie Sanders, who sent the ball in the back of the net to extend her team lead to 12 goals in 2018.

Dina Orschmann netted a brace in the victory, scoring in the 70th and 88th minutes.

Vera Varis collected three saves to earn her fourth shutout victory of the season.

The victory clinched a berth for the Knights in the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship.

Dina’s Dimes

  • Entering Sunday, Dina Orschmann had tallied one goal and three assists for five points on the season.
  • The Berlin, Germany, native nearly matched that total in Sunday’s victory alone.
  • Orschmann battled a Houston defender down the sideline before taking her shot from the top left corner of the 18-yard box. The ball sailed just below the crossbar in the top right corner to make it a 2-0 UCF lead in the 70th minute.
  • In the 88th minute, Orschmann again had a breakaway. After her initial shot was blocked, she persisted, sending the rebound in to put UCF ahead 3-0.

  • UCF recognized its eight-member senior class prior to the start of Sunday’s match.
  • In her final home regular season contest, Carrie Lawrence recorded the assist on the game-winning goal as her corner kick in the 59th minute led to Sanders’ marker.
  • As a class, the 2018 UCF Women’s Soccer seniors have now accumulated 43 victories on the pitch.

The Knights close out their regular season on Oct. 26, heading to Tampa to face No. 17/20 South Florida. Six points in the War on I4 rivalry series are on the line. UCF currently leads the 2018-19 edition of the rivalry series, 9-0.
