Director of Player Development


Steve Smith was named UCF Football Director of Player Development in December of 2017.

Smith comes to UCF after four years on the staff at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. Smith coached the defensive line at Southeastern, leading the Fire to a No. 2 national ranking in sacks per game in 2016. The Southeastern defensive unit was No. 3 in the nation in rushing defense in 2016 as well. Southeastern recorded 33.5 sacks and 95 tackles for-loss in just nine games during the 2015 season. Smith began his tenure at Southeastern as a graduate assistant in 2014 and was promoted to a full-time coaching and academic coordinator position in 2015.

Smith has also coached at Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Fla. and Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind. He was an all-conference performer at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Smith played professional indoor football with the Fairbanks Grizzlies and Wyoming Cavalry.
