Twitter: @CoachMDChatman Assistant head coach Michelle Chatman is in her eighth season as part of the UCF volleyball staff. She serves as the program's recruiting coordinator and middle-blocker coach. Under her tutelage, the front line for the Knights has taken its game to the next level. In 2014, DeLaina Sarden capped off her UCF career with her third consecutive Honorable Mention All-America status, the only player in program history to earn the distinction more than once. She was voted the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and earned her second consecutive unanimous First Team All-Conference honors. Fellow middle blocker Kaye-Alese Green joined Sarden as an honorable mention All-American and was a First Team All-Conference honoree for the first time in her career. The 2013 season saw Sarden earn AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second-consecutive season after posting 395 kills, 122 combined blocks and a conference-high .409 attack percentage. Green earned All-American Conference second team honors after racking up 181 kills and a .338 attack percentage. The 2012 season saw Sarden earn AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors after posting 269 kills, 127 combined blocks and a team-high .352 attack percentage. The 2011 front line saw Sarden named Conference USA Freshman of the Year after she finished the season with a team-high 18 block solos and averaged a block a set while smashing 205 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. Fellow blocker Tory McCutcheon was no slouch either with her team-best .329 attack percentage and 88 block assists. In 2010, the Knights registered 82 total block solos on the year, matching the fourth-best total for a single-season. Against SMU on Oct. 29, UCF swatted nine block solos, the fourth-best single-match performance in school history. While hosting Tulane on Nov. 5, it was another block party for the Knights as they racked up 29 block assists, the fourth-best output in program history. Chatman, much like head coach Todd Dagenais, keeps her summers active while working with USA Volleyball. She served as one of three assistant coaches for the 2011 USA Volleyball Women's National A2 Program. She worked alongside head coaches Geoff Carlston (Ohio State), Fran Flory (LSU) and Kelly Sheffield (Dayton) as an assistant with the program, while also working with fellow assistant coaches Kim Jagd and Brian Hosfeld. Thanks to her hard work on the recruiting trail, the Knights' 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes were recognized by as one of the top 100 recruiting classes in the nation. Chatman came to UCF after serving the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown University. As an assistant at with the Hoyas, Chatman coordinated all recruiting efforts, while also serving as the director of operations for the team, managing travel and equipment. Prior to being named an assistant at Georgetown, Chatman spent the 2005 season as a student assistant coach at the University of Florida, her alma mater. While assisting the Gators, the team posted a 33-3 overall record and made an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. Chatman was a four-year letterwinner while a member of the Gators' squad and was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention selection as a middle blocker following her 2004 season. Chatman earned her first All-America honor of her career after a senior season that saw her post the ninth-best single-season hitting percentage in UF history (.393). Chatman also garnered AVCA East Region accolades in 2002. During her four seasons as a Gator, the volleyball team posted a 126-10 overall record and made four-consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including the NCAA Final Four in 2002 and the national championship match in 2003. Chatman has also managed camps for the Girls Club of Alachua County (Fla.) and was an assistant coach for the Gainesville Juniors Volleyball Club.
